The Upside

One aspect about the game is that everything will take place in a parallel world that will be referred to as The Upside. Before the start of the game, all characters will have no knowledge of this parallel world.

The Upside is inspired by The Upside Down from the popular Netflix series Stranger Things. Just like the twisted world, The Upside is a copy of its counterpart, The Original World. The worlds are connected to each other so whatever affects The Original World will also have an affect on The Upside and vice versa. Also the creatures which live in this world are similar to many of the animals in real life.

Appearance/Climate

The Upside has two suns, one blue and one red, that give the world its strange glows and appearance. Everything seems to be filtered in either blue or red depending on the time of day. If red then that signals the evening or nighttime and blue is the indication of morning and mid day. The colors are richest during sunrise/sunset and are more faded during prime hours of the day.

A secondary effect of having two suns is that sometimes gravity acts a bit weird. There are floating particles of red, white, and pale yellow that hover in mid-air unless interacted with in which would they move as if underwater. Characters will also be able to take note that they may feel a bit lighter and are able to jump just a bit higher than usual. Their body may feel less compressed by the gravity and they can breath a bit easier at sea level but the opposite is to be said for places of higher ground.

Inhabitants

There are many creatures that resemble morphed versions of animals that we are used to seeing in our day-to-day lives but unlike The Original, humans have never existed. Everything negative that has been done, such as the buildings and a the pollution, has been caused by the humans from The Original World. This is an example of the way that one world effects the other.

The creatures that do exist within the world are mutated versions, of varying extents, of existing animals. Some are more easily identifiable than others but all are based around at least one notable creature.

For example, one animal may be an equal mix of a dog and a lizard, carrying attributes from both species. Or another one may be based on an animal that is known for its calm nature but ends up being deathly dangerous and vice versa. The mutations may be obvious or subtle and the effects can be physical or mental.

The cat species however has seemed to have been affected surprisingly little by the mutations in the manner of appearances but they have been granted the abilities to manipulate and bend the elements of nature to their will. And given enough time in The Upside, players too will begin to be effected by The Upside.
